Client: Ubisoft
Support: Creative Wales and the Welsh Government
Our role: UX and narrative design, technical architecture, full-stack development and immersive content integration
The project
Discovery Tour App: Medieval Baghdad turns Ubisoft’s researched world of ninth-century Baghdad into an interactive learning experience. Created with Sugar Creative, the standalone app invites people to explore history through stories, games and discoveries beyond the console.
The brief
A companion to Assassin’s Creed Mirage, the experience needed to make historical content approachable for casual users while remaining authentic and working across a wide range of devices.
Our role
Sugar Creative led full-stack development, spanning UX and narrative design, technical architecture and immersive content integration. We worked closely with Ubisoft’s historians, cultural consultants and global team, with strategic support from Creative Wales.
Two ways to explore
Access Codex introduces the art, culture and daily life of the Abbasid Caliphate, with selected artefacts brought to life through augmented reality.
Explore Baghdad connects that knowledge with a narrative journey through mini-games, puzzles and immersive 360° scenes.
Sugar Creative have proven their expertise in combining immersive technology with rich, accessible storytelling, and it was truly exciting to work with them on developing the Discovery Tour App: Medieval Baghdad. Their experience in delivering interactive cultural experiences, particularly those grounded in history and education, made them the ideal partner to help bring the world of 9th century Baghdad to life beyond the console.

The experience
Learning through discovery
Players follow a guided journey through ninth-century Baghdad, solving puzzles, exploring 360° scenes and completing branching missions. What they discover in the codex helps them navigate challenges and uncover more of the story.

Historical detail, made interactive
The experience combines Ubisoft’s historical research with interactive content, including real-world artefacts such as the Ruby Lustre Bowl, provided by the Arab World Institute in Paris.

Explore it for yourself
Available on iOS and Android, the app gives students, families, gamers and educators a way to explore the world beyond Assassin’s Creed Mirage.
