Cardiff, Wales (3rd Sept 2025) – Sugar Creative is proud to announce its collaboration with Ubisoft on Discovery Tour App: Medieval Baghdad, a new free-to-access mobile and web experience that brings 9th-century Baghdad to life through interactive storytelling and augmented reality.
Entirely derived from the rich historical world of Assassin’s Creed Mirage®, the app invites users to explore the Abbasid-era city through two immersive modes: Access Codex, a collection of AR-enhanced encyclopaedic entries covering the life, science and culture of the time; and Explore Baghdad, a guided, narrative journey filled with mini-games and 360° scenes.
At the core of Discovery Tour App: Medieval Baghdad is an engaging, play-based learning experience. Players embark on a narrative-led journey through the city, unlocking parts of the historical codex by completing interactive mini-games and 360° exploration challenges. The experience is designed to be more than passive education. Players must absorb and apply knowledge from the codex to navigate branching storylines and make informed choices throughout the missions. By blending learning with exploration, the app transforms historical content into a meaningful, game-led adventure.

Sugar Creative served as the lead development partner on the project, working closely with Ubisoft to shape the user experience, narrative flow, technical framework, and AR implementation. The Cardiff-based studio translated Ubisoft’s assets and historical research into a fully interactive, cross-platform experience designed for global accessibility.
The project was part-funded by the Welsh Government via Creative Wales, whose targeted support helped enable the team in Wales to deliver a truly international collaboration in immersive technology and educational storytelling.

The app features high-fidelity digitised artefacts - including the Ruby Lustre Bowl from the Arab World Institute in Paris - scanned and presented in AR, alongside gameplay elements, branching choices, and seamless web and mobile delivery.
The Discovery Tour App: Medieval Baghdad highlights Ubisoft's ongoing dedication to innovation within the cultural and educational sectors through immersive technology. This project also resonates with Sugar Creative’s commitment in advanced heritage-focused experiences, drawing on their expertise from previous collaborations such as 878 AD.
